Burials

Every family has different values, traditions, and priorities. Whether you're looking for a traditional burial, a more environmentally conscious option, or something as natural as possible, we're here to help you understand your choices and find the right fit.

Most families who choose Inclusive Funeral Care spend approximately $4,400 for our professional services. Cemetery fees and other third-party expenses are separate and vary depending on the cemetery you choose.

Traditional Burial

A traditional burial typically includes embalming, a casket, and a burial vault or grave liner. Services may be held at a funeral home, place of worship, or cemetery before your loved one is laid to rest. This remains the choice for many families who value longstanding traditions or whose cemetery requires a vault.

Green Burial

There isn't one definition of "green." For some families, it means reducing their environmental impact. For others, it means returning to the earth in the most natural way possible.

A green burial may include:

  • No embalming
  • A biodegradable casket, shroud, or wicker basket
  • Natural fiber clothing
  • No burial vault
  • Minimal environmental impact

What makes a burial truly "green" often depends on the cemetery. Many cemeteries advertise green burial options, but only some have been certified by the Green Burial Council. Certification ensures the cemetery follows nationally recognized environmental standards and conservation practices.

Natural Burial

Natural burial is the simplest form of burial. Your body is typically wrapped in natural fibers or placed in a biodegradable container and returned directly to the earth. Embalming is not used, and burial vaults are generally not permitted. The goal is to allow natural decomposition while minimizing environmental impact.

Green Cemeteries Near Chicago

Several cemeteries in and around the Chicago area offer natural or green burial options.

We've personally visited and can help families understand the differences between:

  • Casper Creek Natural Cemetery (Galena)
  • Windridge Memorial Park & Nature Sanctuary (Cary)
  • Willow Lawn Memorial Park (Vernon Hills)
  • St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery (Palatine)

Each offers a different approach to green burial, and we're happy to help determine which option best aligns with your wishes.

Which Burial Is Right for You?

There's no right or wrong answer.

Some families choose traditional burial because of religious or cultural traditions. Others are drawn to green burial because of its environmental benefits. Many simply want the option that feels most authentic to them. Our role isn't to tell you which path to choose. It's to help you understand your options so you can make the decision that's right for you and your family.
