Joseph Marrin

–

Chicago, Illinois

Joseph William Marrin, 41, of Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood, passed away after a long battle with brain cancer.

Raised in Baldwin, New York, the youngest of six, Joe attended Lenox Elementary School in Baldwin, Saint Agnes Cathedral School in Rockville Centre, and graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola. Joe was an athlete, playing baseball as a kid, then football and track in high school, and rugby in college. He ran the 2008 Chicago Marathon in 4 hours and 8 minutes. Joe earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics with a minor in accounting from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. He enjoyed a challenging and rewarding career as an Investment Advisor at Gresham Partners in Chicago for 15 years, and in recent years also offered his expert advice at i-Qu & Co Investments.

It was in 2010 at Carol’s Pub, a country and western dive bar, that Joe met his soulmate, Danielle. The two hit it off immediately, bonding over their mutual love for the band Death Cab for Cutie, and they never looked back. They married in 2017, in an extraordinarily joyous and loving ceremony in Danielle's father’s backyard on a lake. The couple delighted in attending concerts and music festivals together, especially Pitchfork, Firefly, and Riot Fest. They loved singing karaoke, and Joe's favorite song to sing was "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand" by the Primitive Radio Gods.

Joe was a talented musician, beginning with piano lessons as a kid and moving to bass guitar in his teenage years. He played in several bands including The Lockouts, Heatstroke, Ted’s Dancin, Broken Folks, Standing Fool, and Honorable Mention. Beyond expressing his innate musicality, style, and charm, his favorite parts of playing in bands were collaboration, harmonizing, and spending time with his best friends.

Joe enjoyed traveling to Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, Puerto Rico, Belize, Iceland, England, Bonaire, and all over the United States. He embarked on many memorable road trips with his family as a kid. Joe was a "yes man," always ready to try new foods and activities, participate in elaborate and silly games, and wear wild outfits to festivals. He exuded warmth and fun, with a relaxed, happy nature, and was a rock for those around him his whole life.

Beloved spouse of nine years to Danielle Rose Barberini.

Adored youngest son of Stephen and Jane (Farr) Marrin. Dear brother of Teresa (Jahangir) Nakra, Stephen Marrin, Elizabeth Marrin, Ann Marie (Terrence) O’Connor, and Katherine (Matthew Shull) Marrin (Joe’s twin). Loving uncle of Yezad, Kaitlyn, Anna, Megan, Melody, Rebecca, Madelyn, Michael, Sierra, and Isabella. Treasured son-in-law of Michael Barberini. Joe loved being a big brother-in-law to his wife's five brothers, Derek, Sebastian, the late Julian, Christian, and Michael. He was the faithful caretaker of his fur babies Audrey the cat and Dorothy the dog. He leaves behind many cherished uncles, aunts, cousins, colleagues, and close friends.
